Dr. Robin G.
Cummings was born in Robeson County, North Carolina. He
graduated Valedictorian of his senior class at Pembroke High
School in 1974. In 1978, he graduated with honors from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in
Zoology. While completing his undergraduate studies he was the
founding member of the Carolina Indian Circle, a James M.
Johnston Scholar, and a Phi Etta Sigma member. Upon
graduation, he attended Duke University Medical School where
he received his medical degree. At Duke University Medical
School, Dr. Cummings was a NC Board of Governor’s Scholar, a
Henry J. Kaiser Merit Scholar, and a National Library of
Science Scholar. He also received the Sandoz Award for Basic
Science Research, was the Vice-President of the Davison
Council, and on the Curriculum Committee for the School of
Medicine. After several years of hard work and numerous
accomplishment Dr. Cummings was accepted into the surgical
program at Duke Medical Center where he completed his
residency in General Surgery and a Fellowship in
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. During his residency he
participated in a two year research Fellowship in
Cardiothoracic Surgery, publishing several scientific
manuscripts and book chapters.

In 1992, Dr.
Cummings joined the faculty at Moore Regional Hospital in the
Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in
Pinehurst, North Carolina. Dr. Cummings is Board Certified in
General Surgery as well as Cardiothoracic Surgery. He has
served on several boards and committees during his medical
career. Currently he is a member of the American College of
Surgeons, NC Chapter of the American College of Cardiology,
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, The Southern Thoracic
Surgical Association, and the American Heart Association
Council. He serves on the FirstHealth Strategic Planning
Committee and is a member of The Board of Directors for the
FirstHealth Foundation and the Emeritus Board for Pinehurst Surgical Clinic. Dr.
Cummings is also on the Board of Directors for the University
of North Carolina at Pembroke Foundation.
Dr. Cummings is
an active member of the Pinehurst United Methodist Church. He
is married to Rebecca Godwin and they have four children, Amy,
Mark, David, and Adam.
